The problem is that many classic films are spoken in colloquial high speed French or with lots of slang. You can try ‘La fabuleuse histoire d’Amelie Poulain’, it is fun and they speak quite clearly. You can also order films you know on a French website so that you have the dialogs in French. Knowing what the actors are talking about helps a lot (I used that trick many time while teaching English)
As for cartoons, Kirikou, Le roi et l’oiseau, Corto Maltese…
Edit : Exactly. You know what is being said so you don’t have to struggle with words and meaning. It makes the dialogs easier to understand.
