VLC Player & K-Lite Mega Pack?
I used to only use K-lite untill recently I came upon a problem where Media Player Classic was unable to play some .wmv files. So I downloaded VLC Player and everything works fine now. My question is, is it redundant to have both applications installed in my computer now? Does VLC run as smoothly as K-Lite (despite its little .wmv problem)? I watch online television a lot so I need a player which allows me to play not only the standard files, but also .rm, .mov, even .flv. So is VLC good enough to handle these alone? Or do I still need to have K-Lite Mega in my computer?
Thanks!
VLC is a media player and K-Lite is a codec package. VLC has nothing to do with K-Lite because it uses its own codecs.
VLC can play many media formats, including the ones you’ve mentioned. It doesn’t include any extensions for viewing online stream media though.
If you want to use any media player you want, but don’t want to install an entire package filled with codecs you may not use, use GSpot. With this app you can identify which codec was used for the file you want to play and it will tell from where you can install it.
It’s more safer and you only get to install what you will be using. (K-Lite is a very good codec package though, never had problems with it but it includes many codecs which you may not need).
