In the original show, a bunch of girls attending a boarding college experience the joys, issues of adolescence under the directing hand of housemother Edna Garrett. Later on in the series, Mrs. Garrett was promoted to college diet consultant and 4 of the girls moved into new housing above the kitchen / cafeteria under Mrs. Garrett’s watch.
