Parents, what is your take of all this sex and vulgarities on tv, internet and even radio? ?
I’m finding it increasingly hard to keep all this away from my 11 year old as he gets older and older. It’s all over tv shows, in commercials and in music. It’s all over the internet, and it’s a losing battle. If your a parent, you know exactly what im talking about.
I’m talking about sexual content, cursing, etc.. I mean were just watching a normal show or movie, and out of nowhere i get blind-sided by some sexual innuendo that’s just way to advanced for my son. It gets all awkward as i fumble for the remote to try to change the channel, but its never on time.
Do i just throw my hands up at this point and let him be exposed to it all without hiding it any longer? It’s at the point where i feel like its everywhere around us, and fighting it is just a losing battle.
Or do i keep fighting this uphill battle, and refrain from him watching most shows, listening to most music, and avoiding 90% of websites? What is your take on this?

haha those were some horrible days, i didnt know what a cuss word was then i said it one day after watching a tv show then i realized after getting in trouble i heard it everywhere, even at school. there is no way to “cuss proof” your child but suggestions are parental controls on some channels, watch the history on your computer and see where your child is visiting. but Ill tell you the truth you cant fully keep them away from it beacuse from the 6th grade on sexual content, cussing, and violence became part of what i saw and heard everyday…..sometimes it gets annoying…try keeping them on disney channel as long as possible I still like some of the shows on there.
you’ve also got to remember your son is at an age where he is learning about sexual things, he is fixing to become curious as he enters puberty and if its not at your own house he will venture out, i remember getting my brother in trouble when he was 12 because he got a hold of playboy magazines….im telling you there is really now way around it and im learning the everyday it gets easier to find and hear things. I was recently do a project for my Psychology class and it was a powerpoint on women and i needed random pictures so i went to Google and clicked on images and typed Pictures of women, not thinking, i saw things i didnt want to see…..that just proves how easy it is.
eventually your son will see it all and hear it all but for now try your hardest to keep him away from it but dont shelter him because if he knows nothing he will get emabrrassed. just keep the remote close by and also try to rent movies with a G or PG rating they are less likely to have cussing and sexual content.
